Online Poker Rakeback Information
Online poker sites are now allowing players to earn something called rakeback. Most online poker players are not familiar with rakeback but the majority of serious online poker regulars have begun using this opportunity to earn large sums of money. Rakeback is rarely offered directly through the poker site itself but there are a couple online poker sites that do. Rakeback is typically earned through a third-party affiliate.
The concept of rakeback is quite simple. When a player decides to sign-up at an online poker site, they enter a promo code for the third-party affiliate in exchange for a guaranteed rakeback percentage. A rakeback percentage is giving the player a certain percentage of the rake or fee collected while the player plays at the online poker site back to the player. Rakeback can be paid daily, weekly or monthly depending on the offer that the player chooses. Generally, rakeback percentages range between 25% and 35%. Rakeback is usually calculated based on two commonly used methods, the dealt method or the contribution method.
Dealt Method
Players that are earning rakeback will be concerned with a figure referred to as their MGR (Monthly Gross Revenue). The dealt method takes the rake that was collected from a hand and divides it by the number of players that were dealt into the hand. Each player that was dealt into the hand then gets credited for the amount of rake that is considered his or her portion. This method is advantageous because the player is getting credited for rake without even contributing to the pot in many cases. The total amount of rake or fee collected in relation to a specific player is what makes up the player's MGR. The player will then have their allocated rakeback percentage paid back to them according to the established rakeback payment schedule.
If a player has a MGR of $1,000 for the month and they get paid rakeback monthly at 35%, the player will receive $350 deposited directly into their online poker account. This allows for players to earn large amounts of money without having made a single cent on the poker table. Players can play break-even poker and still come out way on top. The fee that is collected through sit n go's and tournaments from the player receiving rakeback is directly added to the player's MGR. For example, a $10 + $1 sit n go will have $1 added to the player's MGR.
Contribution Method
The contribution method is another method used by numerous online poker sites. The process for players receiving the rakeback percentage of their MGR is identical to the dealt method. The only difference in the methods is the way that the MGR is calculated. Players will only be credited for rake that is collected in hands where the player contributed to the pot. Players looking to capitalize on rakeback can immediately see where this method is not as profitable as the dealt method.
If you are a very loose player and play an ungodly amount of hands, then maybe this method will be more profitable for you in terms of rakeback. However, playing like that means you probably are losing way more money on the table than you will earn in rakeback. Sit n go and tournament fee are still calculated into MGR the same as the dealt method since the player is directly contributing the fee associated with their buy-in.
