Online Poker Statistics and Tracking
To be successful at online poker, most players will need to implement some form of system for reviewing statistics. Statistics can be tracked through a number of methods. Online poker players should aim to track themselves along with their opponents. The idea behind tracking yourself is to improve on areas where mistakes were possibly made. Tracking yourself can also show which hands and from what position, were the most profitable for you. Tracking your opponents in real-time should be obvious as to why this method is beneficial. Players can see their opponent's tendencies in detail down to the percent and capitalize off the weakest players at the table.
Tracking Software
There are a number of software providers out there that offer online poker tracking software. The most popular one that is being used within the online poker community seems to be Poker Tracker. Online poker-tracking software will allow players to import their hand histories from the online poker site into the tracking software. This tool will take the hand history provided in the online poker site and create a much more detailed analysis. Players can view their starting hands and the software will breakdown how many times each starting hand was played, the win percentage, the profit won and how much on average was waged during the hand.
Players can also track their play based on position specific to each hand. For example, players can see how profitable they were and their win percentage with Ace/Ace (Rockets) from under the gun versus from the dealer seat. Players can also use graphs within many online poker sites to better visualize statistics. Another very useful tool within many online poker tracking applications is the HUD (Head-Up Display). The HUD allows players to see data on their opponents in real-time. The statistics are placed right on the table by each player's name. This will allow players to see how often each player is raising pre-flop, how many hands they are playing and even how much money they voluntarily put in the pot on average. These statistics are very helpful for players looking to target the weakest players on the table.
Table Selection
Online poker has become extremely popular and every day, there are thousands of players learning more and more about the probabilities and odds of poker. That being said, online poker players looking to be successful will need to be able to select the right table and target the weakest players. Online poker sites usually provide stats that will help players do just that. These statistics are commonly the average pot size, hands per hour and percentage of players going to the flop. The average pot size and flop percentage work hand in hand to tell how loose or tight the table is in terms of hand selection and how aggressive or passive they are in terms of betting. Tracking software will take it a step further and give players a score for each table, making the table selection process a no-brainer.
Online poker players that may be new to online poker and have not even considered tracking their play, should start. Any area in which an online poker player can improve or strengthen their odds should be pounced on. Finding the weakest players where your chances of walking out of the session ahead significantly improve should be every online poker player's goal.
