Emotional Control in Poker

Emotional Control in Poker is something that determines the difference between a winning player and a losing player. If you can control your emotions you will be able to do well in the long run. Poker is a game where there is a great deal of stress, and tensions are always high. When you can control yourself off the table most times it relates to on the poker table as well. Most good players will go and play and win for a good portion of time then all of a sudden lose one big hand. Even though they are still up on the session it is irrelevant because all of a sudden they feel on tilt. As soon as you even feel a little bit tilted by a hand you should take a break and regroup. Being able to stop yourself before all is lost is something that a lot of players have trouble with. Most players will lose one big hand, go on tilt, and lose their mind along with all of the chips in front of them.

To avoid tilt and keep yourself in control of your emotions you should stay away from things such as energy drinks and alcohol when playing. These things are not good for your game and will cause you to make bad decisions. When you can cut things like that out you will be better off for it, and be able to stay focused throughout a session regardless of the hands played or beats taken. Sometimes players can’t control emotions and things like playing online poker, or mass tabling can destroy one’s bankroll. If you feel like you are going on tilt, to control your emotions you should step away from the computer for a few minutes and come back to it when you regain your sanity. It is easier to say then do, but it is for the better. Online poker isn’t going anywhere. It has been around for years now and will only continue to grow in the future. When you are losing your mind it is detrimental to your bankroll because you can experience huge swings in money that you wouldn’t have otherwise.

Keeping your mind and body together is something that you need in order to push forward and move up in limits. There is a ton of stress involved in poker and players who can’t handle the swings of the game should find another hobby. Poker is a game that you can play for fun or play seriously; that is the beauty of it. One player at a table can be taking a shot at a higher limit than they are used to, and the other could be moving down a limit because they just came off a huge poker bonus bankroll and emotional swing. You can see players who are capable of playing 100/200, but, are only playing 5/10 because they have no emotional control. When you can learn from your mistakes is when you can thrive as a poker player. Always staying focused is something that you need in order for success. If you don’t bring 100% of your mind to the table you won’t be walking out as a winner most of the time. If you can get control over your mind; you will have control of a powerful thing.
